When will my cows calve or my ewes lamb?
Use our free Livestock due date calculator: pick cattle, sheep, goats, pigs or horses, enter the breeding (turnout) date and it shows the average due date, the usual range and a “watch from” date, and can add them to your phone calendar. Averages only - your vet knows your animals best. Open the due date calculator →
How many fence posts and how much wire do I need?
Use our free Fencing calculator: enter the field length and width (or a straight fence length), your post spacing, number of wires, gates and the length of wire on your roll - in feet and rods or in metres. It estimates the posts, the wire with a little extra for tying off, the number of rolls and the field area in acres and hectares. It is an estimate for flat ground - check with your supplier or contractor before you buy. Open the Fencing calculator →
How many bushels are in a tonne of canola or wheat?
It depends on the crop’s standard bushel weight. In Canada a bushel of wheat, peas, lentils or soybeans is 60 lb (about 36.7 bushels per tonne), canola and mustard 50 lb (about 44.1 per tonne), barley 48 lb (about 45.9 per tonne) and oats 34 lb (about 64.8 per tonne). Our free Grain converter also turns $/bu into $/tonne and bu/ac into t/ha. Your buyer may use a different weight, so check your contract. Open the Grain converter →
How many bushels does my grain bin hold?
Use our free Grain bin & silo capacity calculator: enter the diameter, eave height, hopper and roof height in feet or metres, pick the crop and the grain depth. It shows bushels and tonnes when full and now, US and imperial volume bushels, and the value at your own price per bushel. As a rough guide, one US bushel is 1.2445 cubic feet. Never enter a bin to measure grain. Open the bin calculator →
Do you have free tools for farmers?
Yes - free on the website, no account needed: a grain bushel & price converter for Canadian crops, a farm unit converter, a feed budget calculator, a feed cost comparer, a seeding rate calculator, a spray tank mix calculator, a livestock sale value calculator, a winter feeding & cold stress calculator, a grain bin & silo capacity calculator (bushels, feet or metres), a fencing calculator, a livestock due date calculator and a farm words glossary. They work on a phone and nothing you type is stored. See all handy tools →
How much hay or feed do I need for my stock?
Use our free Feed budget calculator: enter the number of head, the days you need to feed, their average liveweight, the daily intake (as a % of liveweight), your feed’s dry matter % and wastage, and the weight of one bale. It estimates the tonnes and bales to have on hand. It is a quantity estimate only - talk to your vet or livestock adviser about the ration itself. Open the Feed budget calculator →
How much chemical goes in each spray tank?
Use our free Spray tank mix calculator: enter the area, your water rate (L/ha), tank size and the label rate of up to three products. It shows how many tank loads the job takes and a mixing sheet with the product for every full tank and the part-filled last tank. It only does the arithmetic - always read and follow the product label. Open the Spray tank mix calculator →
What seeding rate should I use in kg/ha?
Use our free Seeding rate calculator: enter the plants per m² you want, the seed weight (grams per 1,000 seeds) and your germination and establishment %. It works out the seeds to sow, the rate in kg/ha and lb/acre, and the seed and bags for your area. The right plant stand depends on your crop and district, so check with your agronomist or seed supplier. Open the Seeding rate calculator →
Which feed is cheapest - hay, silage or grain?
Use our free Feed cost comparer: enter each feed’s price per tonne, dry matter % and (if you have it) energy in MJ per kg of dry matter from the feed test. It ranks up to four feeds by cost per megajoule of energy, or per tonne of dry matter, so wet and dry feeds are compared fairly. Price is only part of the choice - ask your nutritionist or adviser about the ration. Open the Feed cost comparer →

Use our free Livestock sale value calculator: enter the head, the average weight in pounds and the price in dollars per hundredweight ($/cwt), live or on rail (carcass) grade with a dressing %, plus commission, check-off and trucking. It shows the value per head, the total, what you keep after costs and the net $/cwt live, so you can compare offers. One tap switches to kilograms and cents per kg. Use your auction mart’s or buyer’s quote for the price. Open the sale value calculator →

Our Farm help page shows who to call, in order: your provincial agriculture ministry and crop insurance agency first, then the federal programs such as AgriInsurance, AgriStability, AgriInvest, AgriRecovery, the Advance Payments Program and Farm Credit Canada. Pick your province and a topic to see official links only, with the French names. If farm stress is getting heavy, you can call or text 9-8-8 any time. Farm help directory →

Use our Find a local farm service page: pick your province or territory and what you need (farm vet, agronomist, livestock auction mart, licensed grain buyer, feed, seed, custom work rates, machinery dealer or livestock hauler). It links to the official register or association list to search, such as your provincial veterinary body or the Canadian Grain Commission list of licensed grain companies, plus questions to ask before you hire. REALM does not list, rank or recommend businesses. Find a local farm service →
