How we work it out
- Per head: weight paid on (live weight, or live weight × dressing % for carcass) × price. In $/cwt that is pounds ÷ 100 × dollars; in c/kg it is kilograms × cents ÷ 100.
- What you keep: total minus commission (% of the total), check-off and other fees, and trucking (per head).
- Net per cwt live: what you keep per head ÷ live weight - a fair way to compare a farm-gate, auction-mart and rail-grade offer side by side.
1 cwt (hundredweight) = 100 lb = 45.36 kg
$1.00/cwt = 2.205 c/kg
100 c/kg = $45.36/cwt
An estimate only: actual weights, shrink and pencil shrink, weighing conditions, grade and yield grids, bruising, GST/HST and your auction mart's or buyer's terms change the real cheque. Check-off, brand inspection and other fees differ by province and species - check them with your auction mart or buyer. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere. More unit changes are in the livestock price converter; words like dressing percentage and cwt are in the farm words glossary. Calculateur en anglais seulement pour l'instant.
